Though it was a rainy start to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's tour of Blackpool on Wednesday (March 6), Katedidn't let it deter her from greeting fans who waited eagerly in the pouring rain to get a glimpse of the royal couple. To ensure her fans weren't disappointed, the 37-year-old mom declined to use an umbrella because she didn't want it to block people from seeing her. Royal correspondent Emily Andrews witnessed the moment while touring with the pair.
The move is akin to the reasonQueen Elizabethwears bold colours on public outings. "She needs to stand out for people to be able to say 'I saw the queen,'" Sophie Wessexexplained in the documentary The Queen at 90. "Don't forget that when she turns up somewhere, the crowds are two, three, four, 10, 15 deep, and someone wants to be able to say they saw a bit of the queen's hat as she went past."
Luckily, Kate's kind gesture was noted by many fans who couldn't contain their excitement at meeting the duchess. One little girl, in particular, jumped up and down while the Duchess of Cambridge bent down to talk to her and her sister.
While in the city, she and Prince William stopped by Comedy Carpet for a fun walkabout (with some adorable encounters with kids!) before heading to Blackpool Tower for a community meeting and to learn how they're tackling some of the social and mental health problems faced by people in Britain today.
The mother of three – to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – was a sartorial bright spot on an otherwise gloomy day, as she donned a chic green coat by Spartmax. Underneath the elegant piece, Kate wore a Michael Kors Peacock Pattern dress, accessorizing the look with a small bag by Manu Atelier, a pair of black gloves, a green scarf and a beautiful pair of calf-length black suede stiletto boots, which appear to be by Ralph Lauren.
