There’s nothing like catching up with an old friend, and that’s exactly what Katharine McPhee and Duchess Meghan did at WE Day on March 6! David Foster’s fiancé reunited with her old theatre buddy while backstage – and they even chatted about the royal baby.
“She was lovely, and she remembered me – she remembered my sister more specifically because they were in the same class,” the 34-year-old gushed to the Evening Standard. “And she said, ‘I’m just sitting around waiting for the baby to come.’” Aww!
The old friends grew up doing musical theatre together in Los Angeles. Katharine was sadly unable to get a copy of a photo taken of them at WE Day. “You know, the royals have to approve everything,” she told Good Morning Britain on March 11.
Royal watchers love some insight into Meghan’s life, and in January, Katharine whet their appetites with an incredible throwback post in the spirit of #TBT. “Meghan and I did musicals together as kids,” the American Idol alum wrote while sharing an Instagram snap of the two dolled up in their musical theatre makeup, hair and outfits. “She grew up to be the Duchess of Sussex and I grew up to star on the West End, so same life if you ask me.”
On Good Morning Britain, Katharine was asked why she didn’t share it around the time of Prince Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding. “That’s stupid. That’s opportunistic,” she said. “But then when I had something to promote, I’m here in London, living in her country now doing a musical, I thought, ‘I’ll post it!’ and it became a much bigger thing,” she laughed.
The singer is starring in the London production of Sara Bareille’s musical, Waitress. Will Meghan watch her friend perform? “I’d like her to come to the show – but no pressure on her,” Katharine told the Evening Standard. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Meghan and Harry stopped by for a show – after all, the two love the theatre! The couple recently attended TINA the Musical and The Wider Earth, and have seen Hamilton multiple times.
While Prince Harry was at the 2017 WE Day event in Toronto, March 6 was Meghan’s first time joining him. She hit the stage to an eruption of cheers from the young audience, and dazzled in black Rag & Bone jeans, a black top and a chic navy blue blazer.
