The Prince of Wales can be quite the joker, and he showed off his quick wit in the Caribbean this week while meeting Lionel Richie. The Duke of Cambridge caught up with Lionel at the Coral Reef Club Hotel in the capital of Bridgetown on March 19, where it was announced Lionel would be the first global ambassador of Charles’s Prince’s Trust International charity.
You may have seen several photos of the two shaking hands in the hotel’s garden and laughing together. While thanking the “Hello” singer for taking on the role, Charles made a pun on that No. 1 hit song’s lyrics, according to Yahoo: “It must have been you I was looking for,” he quipped. Lionel’s response: “Oh, did you say that? He did say that.” Now we know what was so funny!
Charles founded The Prince’s Trust International in 2015 as an extension of The Prince’s Trust outside of the UK. Lionel will chair the new global arm, which aims to work on issues such as the education and unemployment faced by young people throughout the Commonwealth. The charity currently operates in Australia, Barbados, Canada, Greece, India, Jordan, Malta, Pakistan and New Zealand, and has plans to expand its operations elsewhere.
“I’ve been involved with the Prince’s Trust for a number of years and, of course, I understand exactly what they do – giving opportunity to kids who would never ever have a shot anywhere close to their dreams,” Lionel said at the reception, according to Yahoo.
Charles is currently in the Caribbean on a 12-day tour, accompanied by his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, who has been attracting quite a lot of attention with her very cool style choices! On March 20, the couple visited St. Vincent and The Grenadines. They are also set to travel to St. Kitts, Grenada and the Cayman Islands, and will make a historic visit to Cuba on the jaunt.
