Prince William knows what it takes to be a hands-on dad and incredible role model to his three kids with Duchess Kate – Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 4, and one-year-old Prince Louis. For the second year in a row, he’s being recognized for his parenting skills with a nomination for the Celebrity Dad of the Year award.
Every year, Swedish hardware store Clas Ohlson receives nominations for the most famous of fatherly faces to take home the gold (although they're all winning dads!). William joins a long roster of other nominees this year, including EastEnders star Danny Dyer, Olympic medallist Tom Daley, YouTube star Jonathan Saccone Joly and British TV presenter Declan Donnelly. The 37-year-old was also up for the award last year, but lost out to YouTube star Mark Hoyle.
It’s no surprise William receives this honour year after year. Not only is he a dedicated father himself, he also spends a lot of his time supporting local families and helping mentor other dads.
In February, he spoke about becoming a first-time parent at an event dubbed Future Dads. “The fear of having a newborn baby, that’s very vulnerable and that’s what you spend most of your time worrying about, thinking what do I do? And that’s the thing isn’t it? It’s very daunting of how tiny they are when they first arrive.” William will surely have lots of advice to pass on to his brother and sister-in-law, Duchess Meghan.
Kate’s husband is very much dedicated to his life as a royal, but is a family man through and through. No matter where he goes, he’s always gushing over his children – and most recently, his newborn nephew! While out at an event to hype up King’s Cup Regatta on May 7, William was asked if he was excited to become a new uncle again. “Yes, absolutely. [I'm an] uncle, second time for me, and you as well,“ he said, pointing to the duchess. She joked: “I'm definitely not an uncle.” The two burst into laughter upon realizing William’s little mistake!
“Obviously thrilled, absolutely thrilled, and obviously looking forward to seeing them in the next few days when things have quietened down,“ the prince continued. “I’m very pleased and glad to welcome my own brother into the sleep deprivation society that is parenting.”
