Duchess Kate pulls out Lover’s Knot tiara and Queen Mother’s earrings for state banquet with Donald Trump

Duchess Kate was her usual elegant self as she attended a banquet for US President Donald Trump and US First Lady Melania Trump at Buckingham Palace on Monday (June 3).

The Duchess of Cambridge, who arrived with Prince William, was wearing a white gown by Alexander McQueen, the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara and the Queen Mother’s diamond and sapphire fringe earrings for the event.

The tiara, of course, was once owned by Princess Diana. Kate has worn the tiara many times in the past, including greeting King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands at a state dinner in their honour at Buckingham Palace last October.

Kate was also wearing her new insignia as a Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO). The title was gifted to her by the Queen earlier this year in honour of the duchess’s close relationship with the Royal Family, along with her dedication to representing Her Majesty. Queen Victoria created the Order in 1896, and Kate’s title is its highest ranking.

Melania wore a Dior Haute Couture ivory silk crepe gown with silk tulle detail. Her Majesty, who accessorized her outfit with some massive rubies, also dressed in white, as did Duchess Camilla.

Kate, William, Camilla, Donald and Melania were joined by the Queen, Prince Charles, Duchess Camilla, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Prince Michael of Kent and Princess Michael of Kent, the Earl and Countess of Wessex and Donald Trump’s children, among others.

During the event, the Queen gave a speech in which she highlighted the "close and longstanding friendship between the UK and the US."

Donald and Melania arrived in the UK earlier on Monday. They were greeted on Buckingham Palace’s lawn by Prince Charles, Duchess Camilla and the Queen before having lunch there and visiting the Picture Gallery to see American items in its historical collection. Prince Harry attended the reception, as did Prince Andrew. From there, the US first couple to Westminster Abbey, and then went to Clarence House, Charles and Camilla’s home, for tea.
