The Duchess of Sussex will reportedly make her next public appearance at the tennis competition sometime in July, according to Entertainment Tonight. A source told the program the only way Meghan will not show up at the courts to cheer her good friend on is if “baby [Archie] keeps her home last minute.”
Wimbledon qualifiers are underway now and competition begins Monday (July 1), with the tournament running until July 14. Serena, who has won 23 career Grand Slams and is ranked No. 11 in the world, made it all the way to the Wimbledon final last year, so there could be multiple times we may see Meghan out cheering her on! Serena is the second-favourite this year, just behind Ashleigh Barty.
New mom Meghan is still on maternity leave after giving birth to Archie Harrison in May, and will not return to official engagements until the fall. But her appearing at Wimbledon is not out of the realm of possibilities. As we mentioned on Wednesday, Duchess Kate was still on maternity leave after giving birth to Prince Louis when she and Meghan stepped out on July 14 last year to cheer Serena on in the women’s final against Angelique Kerber.
As for Serena, she has plenty to celebrate this week, as it was announced she will appear on the box of Wheaties cereal for the first time, which indicates she is seen as an athlete whose impact on her sport has been almost unparalleled.
“I have dreamt of this since I was a young woman and it’s an honour to join the ranks of some of America’s most decorated athletes,” she said in a statement on General Mills’s blog.
“I hope my image on this iconic orange box will inspire the next generation of girls and athletes to dream big.”
