Prince Louis got a really cool gift from a tennis legend at Wimbledon

By Zach Harper

Prince Louis is shaping up to be one cool little one-year-old! You might have seen when he hijacked mom Duchess Kate’s sunglasses last week while out to watch dad Prince William and uncle Prince Harry play polo last week, and now he has a pretty sweet pair of kicks – all thanks to a tennis legend!

On Sunday (July 14) at the Wimbledon men’s singles final between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, Kate was seen leaning behind her in the royal box to accept a pair of shoes from former World No. 1 Stan Smith. They are a very itty bitty version of his Stan Smith streetstyle shoes by Adidas, and Stan had written “To Louis” in gold on the side of one of them, People reports.

While Stan is retired and is not likely to be Louis’s favourite player anytime soon – unlike Prince George’s favourite racquet-wielder, Roger – it’s smart of him to try and get Louis into tennis as soon as possible. Kate and her family are tennis fiends, having attended multiple days of Wimbledon each this year.

Kate is a patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. She stepped out to the second day of competition, the women’s singles final between Serena Williams and Simona Halep with Duchess Meghan on Saturday, and the men’s final on Sunday, which she took in with William. Kate’s entire family was there for the latter match, and her sister Pippa Middleton joined her and Meghan in the Royal Box the day before.

Novak won the men’s singles final in a total nailbiter of a match that went to five sets! Kate’s expressions during the extremely intense event on Sunday were basically what we were all feeling while watching:

At the beginning of this year’s Wimbledon tournament, it was revealed Roger is George’s favourite tennis player. He has been giving the young Prince, who turns six years old next week, some lessons. The Cambridges have a tennis court installed at their family home of Anmer Hall in Norfolk, so it looks like Louis and George and Princess Charlotte will have plenty of chances to learn tennis from a very early age and fall deeply in love with their mom’s favourite sport.

We hope we see Louis toddling around a court in his new kicks very soon! We – ahem – love them!
