While stepping out with Prince Harry and the four-month-old tot at a meet-and-greet with Archbishop Desmond Tutu and his daughter Thandeka Tutu-Gxashe, the 38-year-old was overheard calling her son “Bubba.”
“Say hello! Hello, hi,” she says to Archie in video from the event.
Once she realizes he’s drooling, Meghan then can be heard saying, “Oh, Bubba!” before Harry hops in with a helpful cloth.
In a video shared to the royal pair’s Instagram, Meghan seems to repeat the nickname. The short also shows Archie laughing with delight at Thandeka, prompting her to note he seemed to understand what was happening.
“I think he knows exactly what’s going on,” replied Harry.
“You like me best, yes!” Thandeka said to Archie. “Oh, you like the ladies better, yeah.”
“He likes to flirt,” Meghan agreed.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also shared a black and white image of Desmond kissing Archie’s head in a follow-up to the visit.
“Thank you Archbishop Tutu for your incredibly warm hospitality, Archie loved meeting you!” they captioned the shot.
The tiny boy received several gifts from the archbishop during his first-ever royal tour appearance, including traditional South African beaded bracelets, portable lap desks from the TuTu Desk Campaign, which provides desks to poor children, and children's books he had written (one was signed by himself and the Dalai Lama). The package also included a very sweet gift for Harry: framed images of his mother Princess Diana meeting late former South African President Nelson Mandela in Cape Town in 1997.
The gifts were among the many Archie has already received during his time in Africa.
At an event on Sept. 23 hosted by The Justice Desk, an organization that teaches children about their rights and self-awareness and safety, the royal infant received a framed inscription of his traditional Xhosa name (Ntsika, meaning “pillar of strength”). He also got a pint-sized black and white rugby sweater emblazoned with the words “Be A Voice For Justice.” The shirts are sold by The Justice Desk online and retail for $35.
