Huge congratulations are in order for Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi because they’ve just gotten engaged!

It seems close pal Misha Nonoo’s romantic and lavish wedding in Rome may have inspired Edo to propose! A statement from Buckingham Palace says the couple got engaged “while away fror the weekend in Italy earlier this month.” Both Beatrice and Edoardo attended Misha’s nuptials to millionaire Michael Hess last weekend, along with Beatrice’s sister Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan and celebrities such as Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom.

As for a wedding date, Buckingham Palace says it will take place in 2020 and more details will be announced “in due course.”

“We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement,” Beatrice and Edoardo said in a statement released by Buckingham Palace. “We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married. We share so many similar interests and values and we know this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness.”

The couple also released a series of gorgeous engagement photos in announcing their happy news, which were shared by Beatrice’s mother Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, on Twitter. Eugenie was responsible for two colour images taken of the couple, which Sarah said happened since her daughters “are so close.” Two black-and-white images were taken by Misan Harriman at the Royal Lodge at Windsor Great Park, where Sarah and Prince Andrew, Beatrice’s father, both live.

Sarah and Andrew expressed joy at the couple’s engagement.

“We are thrilled that Beatrice and Edoardo have got engaged, having watched their relationship develop with pride,” the Duke and Duchess of York said. “We are the lucky parents of a wonderful daughter who has found her love and companion in a completely devoted friend and loyal young man. We send them every good wish for a wonderful family future.”

Edoardo’s parents Nikki Williams-Ellis and Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi echoed their statements, lavishing praise on Beatrice.

“We are truly delighted about Edoardo and Beatrice’s engagement,” they said. “Our family has known Beatrice for most of her life. Edo and Beatrice are made for each other, and their happiness and love for each other is there for all to see. They share an incredibly strong and united bond, their marriage will only strengthen what is already a wonderful relationship.”

There have been rumours Edoardo would propose for months as his relationship with Beatrice became more and more serious, especially since Sarah has been seen spending lots of time with her daughter and Edoardo. Earlier this year, she was seen out with them at London club Annabel’s in March, and they were also all spotted dining together at swanky London steak spot 34 Mayfair in April.
