On Sept. 26, Princess Beatrice announced the happy news of her engagement, and the initial photos of her ring from Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi show it’s a real stunner! It turns out the businessman popped the question with a custom-made platinum and diamond dazzler by British jeweller Shaun Leane.
“I am so honoured Edoardo chose to work with me to design the engagement ring for Princess Beatrice and to have been involved in this special moment in their lives,” Shaun said in a statement issued to People after the couple shared their happy news.
“The main diamond is 2.5 karats,” he added. “The baguette diamonds on the side are .75 karats. They are from Botswana and ethically sourced.”
The groom reportedly approached the ring designer, who’s a favourite of the Duchess of Sussex, about four months ago with a very specific design in mind.
“He knew that he wanted a round stone, and he knew he wanted platinum. We talked about aesthetic and he said, ‘I really love Art Deco, and Beatrice really likes a Victorian aesthetic in jewellery.’ We talked about fusing the two together and he thought it would be lovely to do that, to fuse their two personalities together within the ring. There was a real unity.”
The final product came together over five or six meetings in which “Edo,” as he’s called by Beatrice, chose everything from the stones to the gold.
It’s rumoured the ring cost just over US$310,000, though Shaun said he can’t give the final price tag to anyone.
“I think everyone is speculating,” he told People. “It’s interesting to see the range! I can’t divulge that, I’m sorry!”
As for a wedding date, Buckingham Palace says it will take place in 2020 and more details will be announced “in due course.”
“We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement,” Beatrice and Edoardo said in a statement released by Buckingham Palace. “We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married. We share so many similar interests and values and we know this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness.”

The couple also released a series of gorgeous engagement photos announcing their happy news, which were shared by Beatrice’s mother Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, on Twitter. Eugenie was responsible for two colour images taken of the couple, which Sarah said happened since her daughters “are so close.” Two black-and-white images were taken by Misan Harriman at the Royal Lodge at Windsor Great Park, where Sarah and Prince Andrew, Beatrice’s father, both live.
