Prince William visits Kuwait and Oman on Middle East tour

DAY THREE: OMAN
On the third day of his trip to Oman and Kuwait, Prince William stepped out to a beach at Wadi al-Arbeen, in Oman's mountains just outside of its capital, Muscat.
The Duke of Cambridge spent time listening to elders about their sustainability challenges and environmental issues that are affecting their community, and then also joined an Outward Bound training exercise there.

From there, he walked with people who live in the area to the village of Suwaih.

They sat down in the village square in a circle, and William respectfully took off his shoes.

He then spent time listening to elders talk about environmental concerns. Just like his father Prince Charles, the Duke of Cambridge is a keen environmentalist who is passionate about conservation issues.

Following the discussion, William joined a group at an Outward Bound Oman demonstration. The group had been working on building a bridge, walking through the mountains and doing leadership exercises.

Since the group was full of young people, he asked them about what challenges they were experiencing. They said the job market is a challenge.

The Duke of Cambridge then watched the exercise from inside the base.
Kuwait is an important defence ally with the United Kingdom, which helped liberate the country during the Gulf War in the 1990s.

William made a passionate comment about plastic water bottles and the damage they cause to the environment through littering. He said the Royal Family recycle as much as possible and the Cambridges' staff are "plastic free."
"I hate plastic bottles now and I look at them and I literally think it's the enemy," he said, kneeling down to pick one up. "We have made a difference to the way we live. We've made sure when travelling here we only take our metal bottles with us. Lots of metal bottles. "You see a plastic bottle and I'm like, 'ugh!' Horrible, isn't it?"

The duke later attended a special meeting with Sheikh Mohammed al-Abdullah al-Sabah, deputy minister for royal affairs (centre), and Sahar al-Aqab, the director of the cultural centres department at the Kuwaiti royal palace (left). He visited the Abdullah al-Salem Cultural Centre in Kuwait City, where he learned about the country’s heritage and history.
