Daniel Radcliffe says he feels ‘terrible’ for Duchess Meghan

By Zach Harper

Daniel Radcliffe’s life changed forever when he was cast in the title role in the Harry Potter films when he was just 10 years old. From that point on, he has almost constantly been in the spotlight and has been outspoken about how difficult it has been to receive that type of intense attention. So it makes sense that he expressed sympathy for Duchess Meghan in a recent interview.

Speaking to Peopleabout the second season of Miracle Workers, his TV series based on the Simon Rich novel What in God’s Name, the star says he feels particularly bad for the Duchess of Sussex. He pointed out that he is bothered by trolling she has received since she started dating Prince Harry.

“Look, I feel really terrible for Meghan Markle,” he said. “I have always felt Harry and William – ha, like I know them – Prince Harry and Prince William seem like they are very cool and modern and young.”

The 30-year-old admitted he doesn’t “take a huge interest” in the news about the Royal Family, but can’t help but hear about it given that he is “privy to the full force of the British media” since he still lives in the UK. The kind-hearted star said he “can’t even imagine” what Meghan has been going through.

“That is why I have always thought their relationship was sweet because I thought, ‘She must love you if she wants to get involved in this crazy life,’” he empathized. “It must be insane.”

Continuing with his supportive message, Daniel recognized that while his own exposure to fame has helped him understand the pressures of dealing with the media, he stressed what the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are experiencing is on a whole other level.

“What I have and what I went through is a fraction of what they have and went through and they went through it from birth,” he said. “They didn’t even get 10 years like I did… I have a huge amount of respect and empathy for them.”

Meghan and Harry are currently on a six-week extended break from royal duties, and are thought to have spent American Thanksgiving in the United States with Doria Ragland, Meghan's mother, last week. They also have plans to spend Christmas with Doria, though it is unknown whether they will do so stateside or back in the UK.
