Duchess Kate absolutely stunned at the Diplomatic Corps reception at Buckingham Palace on Dec. 11. Many royal fans were excited to see Kate wear her favourite crown, the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara, but they were quick to notice she debuted a sparkly new diamond ring with the Queen’s necklace!
The mother of three accented the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara and her inky Alexander McQueen gown with dazzling earrings and the ornate Nizam of Hyderabad necklace, which is from Her Majesty’s personal collection.
It’s a special piece because the Nizam of Hyderabad gave the Queen the Cartier piece as a wedding gift when she married Prince Philip. The knockout design features diamonds and includes a detachable double pendant drop. Express reports the necklace has a whopping value of approximately $121.5 million.
It was a special treat for fans to see Kate donning the diamond necklace because the last time she wore it was to the National Portrait Gallery’s annual gala in 2014.
Another piece of interest was the ornate diamond ring Kate sported on her right hand. She typically wears three rings stacked on her left hand: her sapphire and diamond engagement ring, her wedding ring and an eternity band.
It is not known whether the never-been-seen sparkler is a new piece or a vintage item. Some people are speculating that it might even be a gift from Prince William!
Kate's outfit was completed with a striking blue, white and red sash, which represents the Royal Victorian Order of Queen Elizabeth II. She received the special honour for her eighth wedding anniversary in April.
