Many might assume the Royal Family hands out lavish gifts to one another as part of their Christmas traditions. That isn’t the case. The Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince Harry and the rest of the family traditionally exchange gag gifts!

Every year, the British royals typically leave for Sandringham to mark the Christmas holidays. On Dec. 24, they finish trimming the Christmas tree and then open presents, as per tradition. This is a reference to the family’s German heritage.

The adult present exchange is famous for cheeky, jokey gifts. For example, The Mirror reports that Princess Anne once gifted brother Charles a leather toilet seat!

Other rumoured gifts the royals are said to have given each other include Duchess Kate presenting Harry with a “Grow Your Own Girlfriend” kit before he started dating Duchess Meghan. It sounds like there are plenty of merriment and laughs at Sandringham!

The gift exchange is a bit different for the children. For 2019, it is reported that Princess Charlotte would really like a pony. However, dad William reportedly thinks she is too young. He is rumoured to be of the opinion that it might be better to wait until next year for a real pony and give her horse-themed presents this year instead.

Prince George is very much into soccer and drawing, so he is expected to receive Christmas presents related to his hobbies.

“George has already written his list for Father Christmas," the Duke of Cambridge explained to Mary Berry during the A Berry Royal Christmas special. “He loves his drawing, he’s a very good drawer. We might give him something to do with drawing or football. He’s loving his football as well.”

There’s a good chance we’ll see George and Charlotte out with the rest of the Royal Family as they head to church on Christmas Day! The prince and princess are rumoured to be making their debuts on the walk, which typically sees the family members greeting well-wishers on the Sandringham estate on their way to St. Mary Magdalene Church.
