Duchess Kate is Hello! Canada readers' number one royal, new poll reveals

By Zach Harper

Happy Birthday, Duchess Kate! Fresh off the Duchess of Cambridge turning 38 years old today, Hello! Canada readers have given her a very special present: The mom of three is their favourite royal!

Back in November, we launched a comprehensive online survey inviting you to share your thoughts on key royal and celebrity topics. We're happy to reveal what you told us! When it comes to your favourite royal, it's Kate!

A whopping 83 per cent of royally-inclined readers said they love her. Even more impressive is that her popularity just exceeds that of the Queen. About 82 per cent of Hello! Canada readers said they admire Her Majesty.

The top 10 of Royal Family members, as chosen by you, is full of members of the Cambridge family. Prince William is third, with 78 per cent, and Princess Charlotte fourth, at 65 per cent. Prince George ties for fifth place with his uncle, Prince Harry, who 63 per cent of readers said they admire. Little Prince Louis finished just behind his big brother and uncle at seventh, with 62 per cent.

It's worth noting Duchess Meghan spent a large part of 2019 on maternity leave, which may explain why she features lower on the list, coming in eighth, with 59 per cent. Archie pulls in right behind Meghan at ninth and 49 per cent, while Prince Charles rounds out the poll at tenth, with 48 per cent of readers saying they admire him.

It's also worth noting readers were able to vote for more than one royal, which is why the percentages don't add up to 100.

If you're interested in other findings from our survey, you'll be heartened to know Hello! Canada readers also believe strongly in the monarchy. An overwhelming majority see it as essential to Canadian identity.

Many of you also told us you think the monarchy has a strong, vibrant future ahead, pointing out that the Prince of Wales and Duke of Cambridge's work and leadership are very positive signs for the Royal Family's decades to come. You also cited the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Duke and Duchess of Sussex's work as a source of pride. An overwhelming 83 per cent of you also said the work the Royal Family has done on mental health is truly invaluable.

Interestingly, given Harry and Meghan's announcement about their futures this week, you believed strongly that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will continue to be key players in the Royal Family.

The Royal Family celebrated Kate's birthday in a big way this week. Harry and Meghan wished their sister-in-law many happy returns on the day, and the Royal Family's official social media accounts shared gorgeous photos of the Duchess of Cambridge spending time with the Queen.

Kensington Palace also released a gorgeous new photo of Kate taken by photographer Matt Porteous. In the image, which can be seen above, the Duchess of Cambridge smiles warmly while sitting on a fence that appears to be at Anmer Hall, the Cambridges' country home in Norfolk. The mom of three is dressed casually, wearing jeans and a grey sweater, beaming proudly as she looks slightly away from the camera.
