Hello! Canada readers thrilled about Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan spending more time in Canada, new poll says

HELLO! Canada readers are welcoming Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan to Canada with open arms, a new poll has revealed.

Just before Buckingham Palace revealed the details of an agreement into the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's futures on Jan. 18, we asked you how you were feeling about the couple setting up in British Columbia. Our open-ended poll allowed you to sound off about what you thought, and you were overwhelmingly in favour of them spending more time here.

"I think it's wonderful!" one of you wrote. "Both Harry and Meghan are pillars of strength, are looking forward and have the purest of motives. They simply want to use those qualities better their neighbours and raise awareness about our planet and other creatures. They are most welcome to my country and my home!"

Another person said they hoped Meghan had another child here "so Master Archie has a sibling!"

"I think it's lovely that they feel Canada is a safe and welcoming country to start this new chapter in their lives," another emphasized. "My hope is the press will leave them alone as they have gone to great lengths and given up much to have as normal a life as possible."

British Columbians were also quick to extoll their province's virtues, especially the natural beauty, scenery, mild weather and peace and quiet on Vancouver Island.

"I came to Vancouver Island as a bride in 1953, two years after arriving in Canada," one of you enthusiastically wrote. "I fell in love with its beauty and relaxed lifestyle. Circumstances moved me away and I had to wait 13 years to return. Nothing has changed and I will remain here for the rest of my life."

Harry, Meghan and Archie reportedly spent part of their break from royal duties staying in a home near North Saanich, just north of the provincial capital of Victoria. Archie was said to have stayed in British Columbia with his nanny while the couple returned to the United Kingdom earlier this month. The Duchess of Sussex has since reportedly returned there, and has stepped out to several Vancouver women's organizations in the last week.

There is of course still a lot that needs to be clarified with regards to what the Sussexes might be doing here. Their security is of course of utmost importance, and as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said last week, who will pay for it needs to be determined.

A separate poll into that issue revealed most HELLO! Canada readers would prefer if the Sussexes handled those costs themselves.

Nearly 73 per cent of you said that should be the case, while 14 per cent said the costs should be handled by the Royal Family. Less than one per cent of readers said Canada should take care of the costs, while 11 per cent said a combination of these options was the best solution. Less than one per cent said they didn't know what their preference was or that someone else or another organization should foot the bill.

Harry stepped out to the UK-Africa Investment Summit in London on Jan. 20. It is understood to be the final official engagement in his diary, and he could well return to Meghan in Canada this week, though he could stay in the UK longer for more meetings. We bet Meghan and Archie can't wait to see him and spend more time with him in our beautiful country!
