”What’s the bravest thing you’ve ever said?” asked the boy “Help” said the horse . Two years ago today I called my GP and asked for help. It was the bravest thing I have ever done & without doubt the most rewarding. The journey was long & difficult but that phone call was the start of a new beginning. Not everyone has a GP they can call but @giveusashoutinsta is a 24/7 crisis text line. It’s a place to go if you’re struggling to cope and you need immediate help . @charliemackesy creates the most visually powerful & moving artwork which puts a lump in my throat whenever I see them. Every Christmas tree should have this book under it this year “The Boy, the mole, the fox and the horse” .  @giveusashoutinsta  @crisistextline . #itsoktonotbeok #shout85258 #mentalhealthawareness #depressionhelp #crisistextline #petsastherapy

This is something about which Kate's youngest sibling has long been passionate. James is a self-confessed "dog dad" to a host of adorable pups including Ella, Zulu, Inka, Luna and Mabel.

He frequently shares photos of his four-legged pack and highlights the benefits of pets as therapy on his Instagram.

On Feb. 11, the British businessman shared an update reflecting on what it has been like since he first went public with his battle with depression and how his very good pups aided him.

"It’s been over a year now since writing publicly about my experiences with clinical depression and how my dogs played a vital role in my recovery," he wrote.

"This year I want to focus on hi-lighting how amazing dogs really are, not just from a pet perspective, but how your physical & mental health can benefit too (and much more).

In January 2019, James wrote a candid op-ed for the Daily Mail in which he addressed his battle with depression for the first time. In the emotional piece, the 32-year-old revealed he had dyslexia since childhood and was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder (ADD) in 2017.

He credited his supportive family, including his pets, for helping him on his journey.

"I recognize, too, the role my dogs — Ella, Inca, Luna, Zulu and Mabel — have played in my recovery," he penned. "Ella, particularly, has been my constant companion for ten years and she’s been with me to all my therapy sessions. In her own particular way, she has kept me going."

Last October, James also gave a special shoutout to Ella in recognition of World Mental Health Day.

The Instagram photo he included shows the sweet black cocker spaniel looking lovingly up at her owner.

“This is Ella & these are the eyes which helped me get through the insufferable darkness,” James wrote. "The gentle touch of your wet nose and a loving lick was enough to make me feel brave. I will forever be in your debt. Thank you Ella."
