Prince William and Duchess Kate hire Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan's former social media head

David Watkins, a former staffer for Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, is now working for Prince William and Duchess Kate, reports say.

The 27-year-old has been described as a "wonder kid" and was behind the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's massive success on Instagram and other social networks before the couple stepped down as senior royals last month. Now, he'll be continuing to work for the Royal Family in a different way.

David, who has also worked for Burberry, is now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's digital communications lead. As part of the role, he'll help to expand the Cambridges' massive social presence. The couple boast more than 11.5 million followers on Instagram and nearly 2 million on Twitter. David's role will no doubt be even more important during the coronavirus pandemic, as more people look to connect with the royals online than ever before.

David, who is from Dublin, was still working for the Sussexes when they returned to the United Kingdom for their final joint engagements as senior royals in early March. While he worked for them, he not only handled their branding but was also responsible for Harry's takeover of National Geographic's social channels last year, according to Independent.ie. The publication reports he's already making his mark, and was reportedly responsible for a clip of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis clapping for health care workers that touched the hearts of royals fans in late March.

We're thrilled that David is helping the Cambridges connect with fans in a kind, personal way during this difficult time and we can't wait to see what else he does in this new role.
