The Prince of Wales shared four throwback photos of himself with his mom. The first one is a black-and-white image of when the future King was just a baby! Her Majesty looks at him affectionately as he sits in his crib.
The second photo is of a grown-up Charles tenderly kissing Her Majesty's hand as she presented him with the runners-up prize during the Silver Jubilee Cup match at Windsor Great Park on July 24, 1988. His team lost to France!
The final picture is another more recent one. It features Charles, Her Majesty and Princess Anne, the Queen's only daughter, sharing a laugh in Scotland. The royals were enjoying watching the festivities at the 2018 Braemar Highland Gathering.
"Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a very Happy 94th Birthday," read the message in the caption.
The post was a lovely tribute to the 94-year-old and the long and loving relationship she has with her eldest son.
The monarch typically has two birthday celebrations each year: one in April to mark when she was born and another in June, when she has her official birthday celebrations with Trooping the Colour.
However, like with many royal events and engagements, the coronavirus pandemic has led to changes this year. The typical gun salutes which take place in April at Hyde Park, Windsor Great Park and the Tower of London have been cancelled due to COVID-19.
While the mom of four might not be able to spend her birthday with other members of her family, they are also taking to social media to share their wishes.
Prince William and Duchess Kate wrote, "Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a very happy 94th birthday today," via their Kensington Royal Instagram. The post included a photo of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with her Majesty at the 2019 Chelsea Flower Show, one of the Queen's cherished events.
And we have no doubt there will be lots of uplifting phone and video calls taking place!
