Royal pastry chefs release delicious cupcake recipe for the Queen's 94th birthday

It just isn't a birthday without cake!

There might be a number of changes for the Queen's 94th birthday celebrations on April 21 in light of the coronavirus pandemic, but the royal pastry chefs want to make sure everyone can still fete Her Majesty's big day – as well as other personal celebrations. So they've shared a recipe for chocolate cupcakes. Yum!

The delicious-sounding recipe was announced on the Royal Family's Twitter and the full instructions can be found on the Royal.co.uk website.

The chocolate cupcakes make use of pantry staples and things people likely have on hand, especially if they have been baking while self-isolating from COVID-19. The treats are made with vinegar, milk, vegetable oil, vanilla essence and of, course, chocolate! The cupcakes get their rich flavour from cocoa powder and white chocolate chips.

The royal pastry chefs provided instructions on how to decorate the baked cupcakes with buttercream icing or royal icing. The photos showcased very regal cupcakes in Her Majesty's honour, but the decorations could easily be adapted for another occasion you're celebrating while staying in, such as an anniversary, wedding or another holiday.

Similarly, some of the ingredients could be substituted. You could leave out the white chocolate chips or replace them with milk or dark chocolate ones, or even other sweets, nuts or dried fruit. Get creative!

The pastry chefs are keen to see everyone's finished bakes.

"If you or a loved one are celebrating a special occasion during isolation why not treat yourself to some Royal Bakes?" they wrote. "Remember to share your creations with us by tagging us on social media and using the #royalbakes"

The Queen, who is currently self-isolating with Prince Philip at Windsor Castle, will no doubt be treated to a special dessert for her 94th birthday celebrations.

She might not be able to share her birthday treat with all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren like she would typically do, but they have made sure to send their birthday wishes to the monarch.

Prince Charles gave a heartfelt birthday message to his mother on the Clarence House Instagram, which included four photos celebrating many happy memories from over the years.

Prince William and Duchess Kate also shared their congratulations in a social media post. The Instagram featured a photo of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with her Majesty at the 2019 Chelsea Flower Show.
