The Prince of Wales posted the heartwarming black-and-white image to the Clarence House Instagram. The emotional picture features Charles giving Prince William and Duchess Kate's youngest child a big hug. We can't see Louis's face in the frame, but his grandfather's is filled with emotion. And the sweet moment was captured by Kate! She has a tradition of photographing the milestone moments in Louis and Princess Charlotte and Prince George's lives.
Charles and his grandson are dressed similarly in the undated portrait. They're both wearing light-coloured polo shirts and bottoms. Little Louis is clad in shorts with socks and ankle-strap shoes while the Prince of Wales appears to be in beige khakis with a printed belt.
"A very Happy Birthday to Prince Louis, who turns two today," the caption stated.
The description read: "The young Prince enjoys a hug from his Grandfather, The Prince of Wales. [Photo:] The Duchess of Cambridge"
Just ahead of Louis's second birthday, Duchess Kate and Prince William released four new photos of their youngest son, which were also taken by keen photographer Kate! The adorable images feature the now-two-year-old getting covered in rainbow paint.
Louis was likely making handprint art to honour health care workers in the United Kingdom, who are battling the coronavirus pandemic.
On April 23, the Cambridges posted another message on Instagram with a new photo and thanked fans for the "lovely messages" for their son's special day. "Instagram vs. Reality," they joked in the caption for the image, which shows the mischievous Louis smearing rainbow paint all over his face! Too cute!
The Royal Family celebrate a number of occasions this month. Following the Queen's 94th birthday on April 21 and little Louis's second birthday on April 23, Kate and William will mark their ninth wedding anniversary on April 29!
The family isn't able to get together to toast the milestones because of COVID-19 lockdowns and self-isolation, but they are keeping in touch via video and phone calls and sharing messages of love on social media – just like all of us!
