There are people we're just used to seeing with beards. They were clean-shaven at one point, but their facial hair has become so synonymous with them in our minds that when they shave, it's surprising. James Middleton is one of those people.
Duchess Kate's brother hasn't shaved in seven years, but he did so this past weekend to surprise his fiancée, Alizee Thevenet. She's never seen him without his beard. (That feels strange to write, but he's had a beard for a long time.)
"Alizee and myself were due to get married... well, actually, this month," James said in a video he posted to Instagram in which he documented his major transformation. It happened outside his parents' home in Bucklebury. "She's never seen me without a beard, so I thought it was time I showed her what was behind it."
He didn't seem too concerned, though he said he was a bit worried his dogs might not recognize him afterward. With that, he pulled out an electric razor and just like that... his facial hair was gone.
"Oh, my God! So weird!" said said, laughing.
Carole also seems to have found the whole thing hilarious because she was having a good chuckle at it, as well.
The Middletons seem to be enjoying their time together, even if isolation is difficult during the coronavirus pandemic. The video showed James, Alizee and his parents relaxing outdoors. It looked like they'd all been doing some pruning of a different kind in the form of weeding out the back garden. Since frost season has mostly ended in the U.K. (sorry, Canadians) people are beginning to do their weeding and planting in anticipation of warmer weather.
Kate is likely doing the same with her family as the Cambridges isolate at their country home of Anmer Hall. We wonder what she thinks of her brother's freshly shaven face? She probably got a good chuckle, too, we bet.
We think you look great, James!
