Duchess Meghan's necklace designer donates £10,000 to global dog rescue foundation and says 'huge thanks' to her

By Heather Cichowski

Duchess Meghan is a great dog lover and she's passionate about animal welfare. So, the mom of one must be thrilled that one of the jewelry brands she has previously worn, Sophie Lis, recently made a donation of approximately $16,980 to support global dog adoption through the Wild at Heart Foundation!

The designer took to Instagram to thank the duchess for bringing awareness to the brand, thus, fuelling the donation.

Sophie Lis is an eponymous jewelry brand based in Notting Hill, London. It crafts pieces inspired by the Cosmos that adhere to meaningful, sustainable and transparent business practices.

The Duchess of Sussex wore the Sophie Lis Love Pendant during a surprise engagement to the National Theatre on March 5 in one of her last appearances before she and Prince Harry officially stepped down from their senior royal roles on March 31.

For each Love Pendant sold, ten per cent of sales goes directly to the Wild at Heart Foundation. The organization has a goal of wanting to rehome 10,000 dogs, neuter 100,000 pooches and educate 1 million children by 2025, therefore reducing the world's 600 million stray dog population.

Meghan helped bring awareness to the designer and important cause after she wore the necklace to the aforementioned royal engagement. In turn, the duchess helped the brand make the wonderful donation. Sophie Lis announced the exciting news on Instagram Stories and gave a "huge thanks" to Meghan via Sussex Royal.

"We are so happy to announce we have donated £10,000 from sales of love pendants in the past two months to this incredible cause @wild_at_heart_foundation," read the Sophie Lis Instagram announcement.

It continued, "With special thanks to @sussexroyal for raising awareness and hence funds for this wonderful charity."

A LOVE STORY | “Every day I love you more, more than yesterday less than tomorrow.” How many of us feel like this about our dogs? Especially during times of difficulty, we're learning more each day about just how deep the bond between dog and human runs, and we know that our adopters feel more grateful than ever before for the love and companionship of their beloved rescues. _ But this sentiment is more than just a commentary on our relationship with our dogs, it's also the inspiration behind @sophielislondon's beautiful Love pendant. Inspired by an extract taken from the poem “The Eternal Song” by 19th century French poet Rosemonde Gerard, the pendant is so much more than a piece of beautiful jewellery...it is also a love letter to all dogs everywhere. Sophie generously donates a potion of every sale to the Foundation, helping to rescue dogs in need from a life of struggle and neglect on the streets. _ And we're not the only ones who are big fans! When the Duchess of Sussex was spotted wearing the pendant, it struck a chord with fans the world over. Not only are we delighted to see Sophie's stunning creation get the publicity it deserves, this royal seal of approval led to a rush of sales. But nothing could have prepared us for the good news Sophie shared with us last week - we were utterly blown away when she let us know that she would be donating an incredible £10,000 to the charity!! Thanks to this incredible donation, we'll be able to embark upon new projects and reach thousands more dogs in need, helping to end the suffering of even more strays and give them the chance to lead the life they deserve. _ A huge thank you to Sophie and her team, from all of us here at Wild at Heart Foundation, and - most importantly - from the dogs whose lives you've changed forever. We can't wait to shine a light on the next chapter of this truly incredible love story. _ The Sophie Lis Love pendant is available to order via her website - visit @sophielislondon for links and more information if you'd like to shop and support dogs in need #sophielis #partnership #bettertogether #thankyou #gratitude #togetherwearestronger #lovestory

Meghan herself has a rescue dog named Guy. The beloved beagle has been a constant companion of the California native's since she lived in Toronto while filming Suits. The duchess brought the pooch with her across the pond when she became engaged to Prince Harry in 2017.

In total, she and the Duke of Sussex have two pups. The other is a black Labrador whose name is not known.

The former actress has also served as patron for animal-related causes including Mayhew, an animal welfare charity working to improve the lives of dogs, cats and people in London and internationally.
