He said back in December that he couldn't wait to become an uncle, and on Wednesday Prince Harry became the latest member of the family to set eyes on Kate Middleton and Prince William's newborn son, Prince George. The royal baby met his uncle at Kensington Palace after Harry made the trip back to London from his Army Air Corps base in Suffolk. Proud great-grandma, the Queen also spent 30 minutes admiring the baby who will one day occupy her throne.

There has been a steady trickle of visitors to see the little one since he left hospital with his parents in a photocall beamed around the world on Tuesday evening. Kate's sister Pippa Middleton and her boyfriend Nico Jackson were waiting for them at Kensington Palace, where a small celebration took place. The first people to see Baby Cambridge were proud grandparents Carole and Michael Middleton, who told the press he was "absolutely beautiful".

The Middletons were followed by Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, who beamed as they went inside.

Now all the world knows the name of the royal baby the Cambridges will have to decide on a date for the christening and who the godparents will be: both Harry and Pippa are in the running.

The ceremony may well take place as late as October when the Queen is back from her summer holiday in Balmoral.

After being used for 30 christenings it was decided the robe was too fragile. So Angela Kelly, the Queen's dresser made a replica in 2008.

Traditionally royal baptisms take place in the Music Room of Buckingham Palace. The Archbishop of Canterbury is expected to preside and the baby Prince will wear a replica of the 1841 Honiton lace robe that was first worn by Queen Victoria's children.
