Prince Harry joins Prince Philip in remembering the fallen

Prince Harry accompanied his grandfather Prince Philip to a very poignant engagement on Thursday morning – a visit to the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey, London. The royal pair were attending the 87th ceremony to pay their respects to the fallen.

Harry, who has carried out the engagement twice before in previous years, met veterans, serving officers and their families.

The 31-year-old Prince toured the field with his grandfather where he inspected some of the 100,000 crosses that had been laid out in memory of those who have died. Each cross bore the name of those who lost their life in service, while some crosses carried a personal message and photos of the victims.

During the ceremony Harry and Prince Philip planted wooden crosses to remember The Unknown Soldier and saluted after laying them down.

Each year members of the royal family attend various events in honour of Remembrance Day. On Saturday the Queen and select royals will lay wreaths at the Cenotaph. Prince William will later take the Salute at the March Past of Veteran and Civilian Organisations on Horse Guards Parade.

Prince Charles and Camilla, meanwhile, are on a 12-day tour of Australia and New Zealand. The two countries do not mark Remembrance Sunday and instead commemorate Remembrance Day on Wednesday 11 November.

Charles and Camilla will be in Canberra, Australia on Remembrance Day and will attend the National Remembrance Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial.

Last weekend Harry, William and their 94-year-old grandfather Prince Philip stepped out together for another event. The rugby-mad royals watched the Rugby World Cup final at Twickenham stadium, where they saw the All Blacks beat Australia 34-17.

Harry, who is honorary president of England Rugby 2015, presented the Webb Ellis cup to the New Zealand team after their victory.
