The Middleton family have escaped the January blues. The Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton's parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, are enjoying their traditional getaway in the beautiful island of Mustique as they prepare to celebrate Carole's 61st birthday.

Sources close to HELLO! have revealed that the Middletons are in the Caribbean island but there has been no sign of Kate and Prince William yet.

News of their arrival was first reported by The Duchess Kate Twitter account, which revealed that the mother-of-three was seen wearing a printed dress while she and husband Michael enjoyed an evening with their group of friends.

Carole, who turns 61 on Sunday, was spotted at the weekly Cotton House party in Mustique, accompanied by her husband of 35 years.

It has not yet been confirmed whether Kate will join her parents on their annual trip. The last time the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the island was for Carole's birthday last year when Kate was almost seven months pregnant with Princess Charlotte.

There's no doubt the family will be relaxing and celebrating as they did last year when the Cambridges were joined by Kate’s parents and her siblings James, 28, and Pippa, 32. The celebration was a "small and discreet" party, island regular John Cleese revealed on Twitter.

The family are big fans of the ultra-private Caribbean island, which operates a no-fly zone, and regularly travel there to scuba dive, swim and play tennis, as well as relax at the Cotton House Hotel.

When Kate and William holidayed on the island in 2008, they made a lasting impression on Martin Katz, a famed Beverly Hills jeweller.

"We went to a cocktail party at the Cotton House and William and Kate were there," Martin, whose wife is Kelly, told HELLO! magazine of their royal encounter. "I was at the bar ordering drinks and Kate came over and chatted for a bit. I told Kelly, 'Kate's been chatting me up, you have to be careful!' Then she invited us to come and meet William."

Kelly added: "Martin went to shake William's hand and dropped his glass of pink punch at his feet. It splattered all the way up William's white outfit, splashing him in the face. He said, 'Oh my, that was quite refreshing.'
