At Bellavance at the shOws in Toronto, New York-based designers Nolan Bellavance and Ava Hama took us back to school - well, skipping class behind the building is more like it - and the makeup was no exception.
For COVERGIRL Makeup Pro Veronica Chu, it was all about "the rebellious girl who doesn't want to be your regular, natural, low-key girl - she wants to make a statement."
Her statement? The way we all wanted to look in the 90s, with clear skin, manicured eyes and a bold swipe of deep-brown lipstick.
"We started off with some Olay Regenerist cream to really give that glow," she explained. "You can't start off any good makeup without good moisturizer."
She then used a lightweight COVERGIRL TruBlend Liquid Makeup and corresponding Fixstick to even out the skin tone and brighten under the eyes and around the nose. As for the foundation, "a little goes a long way."
Much like statement dressing, balance is key. We've all learned the hard way that you don't want to go too bold on the eyes and the lips - unless you're in clown college.
A dusting of gold blush on the lids and some Clump Crusher Extensions Mascara and we're on to the brows, which were lightly filled and brushed with clear mascara (the best brow gel!) to balance the lip.
"I remember the 90s where we all wore brown lipstick," Veronica said. "If you didn't wear brown lipstick, you weren't in the club, so it's almost a nod to that."
Four layers later - concealer, powder, liner over the entire lip and LipPerfection in Enchant - and our model's lips were on to stay!
One of the best elements to the model's look? Her glow! Veronica applied a serum to the model's temples, cheek bones, nose bridge and chin, dabbing lightly to give "the illusion that she's highlighted and it's coming from within vs. just sitting on top."
Et voila! A look we'd be happy to try for day or night - especially when we're feeling a little rebellious.
