Get the look: Side-swept California girl at Bellavance Spring 2014

It took 142 pieces of fabric to craft one standout Bellavance arts-and-craft dress but that impressive piece was not the one that left my heart fluttering. A silky robe-come-dress-come-jacket in a creamy ivory shade that showed off a hint of upper thigh and more than a hint of décolletage stood out amongst the rest.

Perhaps it was the nod to masculinity, one which the design duo mentioned after the show, that struck my fancy. The pair, Nolan Bellavance and Ava Hama, have an admitted thing for masculine fabrics but to their credit, they make ticking stripes look sexy. Hailing from Western Canada and Manhattan respectively, the design duo met at Parsons The New School for Design in New York City and marked their spring collection as their second as a team.

Speaking of teams, P&G’s pros backstage topped off the airy looks with a whole lot of hair. Starting with a deep side part, Pantene’s Justin German swept models manes to one shoulder, creating the appearance of one shaved side a la Chanel girl Alice Dellal or Rihanna.

To keep the back tight, he hid a small braid underneath and went ‘90s on the front – as in 90210 Donna Martin push-up bangs – with a little help from Pantene Pro-V Volume Root Lifting Spray Gel.

Covergirl Flamed Out Shadow Pencil in Crystal Flame smudged under the eyes and around the outer corner with a touch of Shadow Pot in Blazing White in the inner corners had this eye shadow phobic wanting to head home and paint my rims orange.
