Every single one of his garments continues to be made in Canada and with a message to boot; his Fall collection proudly sought to embrace feminism and celebrate women with empowering, ultra-feminine ensembles. We can't wait to see what he’s got in store for his Toronto Fashion Week showing.
We asked David the WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN and WHY of his Spring 2014 collection. See his answers below!
WHAT was your inspiration for the spring/summer 2014 collection?
My inspiration for my Spring 2014 Collection is from the children's story, "On the Night You Were Born," by Nancy Tillman.
WHY do you love showing in Toronto and the energy at World Mastercard Fashion Week?
I love being a part of WMFW because it is a place of sharing ideas, inspirations, and reuniting with the most creative people in the Fashion Industry.
WHEN people see the collection what do you hope they’ll take away from it?
What I hope for each season when I show my collection to an audience, is that they feel a connection between me and them. My ultimate goal as a designer is to make women feel great about themselves, and to enhance the spirit within her.
WHO is the 'David Dixon' woman and what is she doing on a Saturday afternoon in Toronto?
The 'David Dixon' woman is every woman, tall, short, plain or pretty, smart and silly. Above all she is engaging with all those in whom she meets. She is magic. What she does on a Saturday afternoon... anything she wants! She is entertaining friends at home, building a fort with her children, or volunteering her time because she knows she makes a difference.
WHERE do you see yourself and your brand in five years?
In five years I see myself still playing with fabric, telling stories with clothing, and of course, with God's blessing, wiser and five years stronger.
