Ingrid Tarrant files for a speedy divorce from Chris

The possibility of a reconciliation between Chris Tarrant and his wife are now looking unlikely as it was revealed Ingrid has filed for divorce. Despite the TV presenter's recent hint that all might not be lost, it seems his Norwegian-born wife is intent on ending their 15-year marriage.

According to friends 51-year-old Ingrid is devastated about the breakdown of the relationship and keen to make the divorce process as swift as possible. "She's even prepared to get divorced first and sort out the financial details later," said one insider. Chris is understood to have received the documents last week.

A spokesman for the Tarrants, who have hired celebrity divorce lawyer Jeremy Levinson to iron out the details, confirmed the latest development. "Sadly this is true but neither party will comment further," he said.

Unlike Paul and Heather McCartney's ongoing negotiations, the Tarrant case is set to be relatively mess-free. Chris, 60, has already said he is prepared to give his wife a "very reasonable" share of his £35 million fortune, while she has declared the settlement "will be conducted in a fair and civil manner".

Papers filed for the case cite adultery, after the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire presenter admitted to a ten-year affair with deputy head teacher Fiona McKechnie. "I am deeply sorry for the hurt I have caused to my loyal wife and wonderful children, all of whom I adore," he said in a statement last month. "I have only myself to blame for the breakdown of my marriage."
