Sharon brings Christian to his knees at music bash

Standing side by side with movie siren Sharon Stone would be enough to make many hot-blooded men feel a little weak at the knees. The experience was apparently too much for Christian Slater, though, as he dropped to the ground and bowed his head in deference when he met up with the blonde bombshell at Tuesday night's American Music Awards.

The two performers were at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium to see a roll-call of the music industry's biggest names being honoured for their achievements. And there was no shortage of star power on show, with Nelly Furtado, Kelly Clarkson and Paris Hilton all making their mark on the red carpet.

Beyonce, who was characteristically stunning in a floor-length aquamarine gown, kicked off the ceremony with a performance of her latest hit Irreplaceable.Gwen Stefani likewise lived up to her stylish reputation in a pair of retro-style white shorts and matching top. R&B diva Mary J Blige, who received the gong for best female soul singer, was meanwhile snapped chatting to Britney Spears, who was equally elegant in an understated beige affair.

Among the big winners on the night were the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who picked up two awards, and the Black Eyed Peas, who went home with three. Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx was also recognised, as the best male R&B singer. "I'm a rookie in this music thing," confessed the Miami Vice star. "This means a lot more than you think."
